Classes and Workshops

We offer art classes for children, teens, and adults. If you would like to sign up for any of our classes or have any questions about them, please stop in at the store, call, or email us.

Students may join at any time provided there is room; registrations are accepted for the beginning of each month. Months that have five weeks will have fees adjusted accordingly. A registration form must be submitted for your child to attemd.

Fees may be paid in bi-monthly installments for children's classes. GST is included in childrens' class fees only.

One month's written notice (on the first of the month) is required in the event of student withdrawal. Notification will not be accepted over the phone.

Classes must have a minimum enrollment.

No classes Family Day, Easter Break , Victoria Day . Classes end third week of June.

The drawing component includes the elements and principles of design. Students learn to become proficient at drawing, and sketching using pencils, inks, charcoal, pastels both chalk and oil, and contŽ.

The painting component is also based on the elements and principles of art and design and includes color theory.

Paintworks reserves the right to make changes to this schedule at any time.

Children's and Teens' Classes

Art Fundamentals I (Ages 6-8)
Classes will introduce students to drawing, painting and sculpture. Activities are not repeated from session to session so students continue to learn and grow in skills.
Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:00 pm or 5:10 - 6:10 pm
$72.00 monthly. One time supply fee $20.00

Art Fundamentals II (Ages 9+)
Students will continue to expand their skills and knowledge of drawing, painting and sculpture. We will study still life, perspective, color theory, landscapes and animals.
Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:30 pm or
Thursdays 4:00 - 5:30 pm, 1.5 hours
$89 monthly. One time supply fee $30.00

Painting (Ages 10+)
Students learn to paint in acrylics and watercolors to create wonderful pieces of art.

Drawing for Teenz 11+ years
Welcome to a class that will give you a glimpse into what you learn in an art school. Perspective, still life, portraiture, figure, animal, landscape and abstract drawing will be covered. At the end of each unit, we will learn to constructively help each other improve our art (critiquing).

Adult Classes

Discover the materials and techniques of each medium with guidance from your instructor. Classes are semi-structured with lots of freedom to experiment. Samples of projects or teachers' works are displayed in store. GST and supplies are not included in fees.
Oil Paints - Please note that only odorless solvents for oils are permitted into classroom due to health regulations.

Principles of Art and Design & How to Apply Them - Beginner/Intermediate
Applicable to all mediums. Strengthen your art through knowledgeable decisions and planning. Includes color theory.

Oil, Acrylics and Drawing
Beginner to advanced students welcome. Work from your photographs or magazine pictures to create unique works and receive help with composition, colors and techniques while working on your own ideas and projects.

Acrylics, Drawing and Watercolor
Tina will guide you in drawing, watercolors or acrylics to produce wonderful works of art.

Work in any of these mediums: watercolors, oils, acrylics, decorative arts, pen and oil, pen and ink and receive help with composition, colors and techniques while working on your own ideas and projects.

Acrylics Essentials Adding Texture
Be prepared to learn and have fun! Create one of a kind works of art through the use of gels, mediums, metallics. Open to all levels of experience.

What's a Megapixel? - An Introduction to Digital Photography
Brian will be repeating this photography workshop. The workshop is geared to those who love to take pictures and want to get "the best shot" with their digital cameras. Participants will gain a better understanding of typical digital camera controls and what "digital" is all about. Pixels, memory, jpegs, tiffs, RAW, lighting, exposure, filters, composition, and equipment are just a few things we will cover. Bring your camera and a few photos (for critiquing and sharing) if you like.

Modern Acrylics
Golden has developed a new paint for artists who love acrylics but would like to be able to have the blendability of oils. Learn what the new Open Acrylics are all about in this mini workshop. We will use the Golden Open Acrylics with their slow drying time to do a small spring painting. No experience required. Beginners welcome.

Class Policies

• Full payment is required to register for a class or workshop. Cash, debit, MasterCard or Visa are acceptable. Sorry, we do not accept cheques, except for children's monthly classes.

• If there are insufficient paid registrations, and we have to cancel a class, you will be notified and you will receive a refund.

• Should there be room in a class already in progress, you are welcome to join. Fees will be adjusted accordingly.

• Classes or workshops missed cannot be refunded or credited to another class.

• Cancellations must occur at least two weeks prior to the date your class starts to receive a refund. After that, you will receive a refund only if your spot can be filled by another person. We will do our utmost to fill the vacancy.

• If you need to drop out of a class or workshop, your fee will be refunded only if there is someone on our waiting list. You may recommend someone to replace you by contacting the store, however you may not substitute others yourself to fill your spot.

• If classes are missed, students may not substitute others to "fill their spot".

• A supply list will be available about ten days prior to your class upon full payment of your total cost.

• Students are responsible for supplies, surfaces and paper towels; and as recommended on the supply list for the specific class registered for.

• Students are responsible for their own clean up. Please do not pour acrylic and oil paints down the sinks.

• Classes will start on time.

Children's Classes:

• Parents are welcome to sit in on the first session of their child's art classes.

• Children should not arrive more than 10 minutes before class time starts and should be picked up promptly at the end of the class.

• Children who are unruly, who are disturbing others in an unreasonable manner, will be required to sit out for a period of time. If this does not resolve a problem, the child's parent will be notified and the child will be removed from the class. A refund will not be forthcoming following the dismissal of a child from any class.
